Pennsylvania – Snowflakes drift through dim morning light across central Pennsylvania as temperatures sit at the freezing mark, coating roads with a thin, slippery layer. Tire spray hisses on pavement, and untreated surfaces feel slick underfoot as Winter Weather tightens its grip during the first week of the season.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midday. Light snow and pockets of freezing rain are producing up to an inch of snow and a light glaze of ice in some locations. Visibility has dropped at times, and road conditions remain hazardous for the morning commute.

Across Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, and surrounding counties, travel along Route 322, Route 26, and secondary roads may be slow. To be fair, accumulations stay modest, but even a thin glaze can cause vehicles to slide, especially on bridges and hills.

Conditions improve later today as precipitation tapers and temperatures rise into the mid-40s. Tonight turns colder again, with clearing skies and lows near 32. Any remaining moisture could refreeze after sunset, keeping black ice a concern.

Wednesday brings quieter weather with sunshine and highs near 42. Christmas Day stays mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-40s and only a slight rain chance. The bigger concern arrives Friday, when a wintry mix becomes likely during the morning and midday hours. Snow and freezing rain could return, complicating post-Christmas travel across central Pennsylvania.

Friday night stays icy, with freezing rain lingering before temperatures ease slightly. After all, December travel often turns tricky when mild days flip cold quickly.

Plan extra time if driving today or Friday. Slow down on untreated roads. Keep winter gear ready. Seeing slick spots or snow where you are? Share what conditions look like in your area.
