STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The morning air feels crisp and quiet across the valleys, the kind that carries woodsmoke and the faint rustle of drying leaves. Sunshine will hold through Friday across much of central Pennsylvania — but the calm won’t last long. A shift toward wetter, colder November weather will take hold by Saturday, bringing breezy rain and a noticeable drop in temperatures by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, Friday will stay bright and dry with highs near 49°F and light northwest winds. It’s ideal for outdoor chores, campus events, or travel across I-99 and Route 322 before the next system arrives. By Saturday afternoon, clouds increase as a low-pressure system tracks in from the Ohio Valley, pulling moisture into the region. Rain chances climb sharply after midday, with the heaviest rain expected Saturday night into early Sunday.

Winds could gust over 20 mph during the frontal passage, especially across higher ridges in Centre and Clinton counties. While temperatures stay mild at first — near 56°F Saturday — readings will tumble into the 40s by Sunday morning as colder air filters in.

For now, no wintry mix is expected, but a “winter tease” could arrive late next week as models hint at colder highs and possible flurries north of I-80 before Thanksgiving. Residents should plan for slick travel Saturday night and a brisk, dry Sunday cleanup under returning sunshine.
