Central Pennsylvania Weather Alert: November Rain to Snow Mix Possible by Monday Morning

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – A calm, crisp morning in central Pennsylvania may be deceiving — a major temperature slide is coming. Wet roads and dropping temperatures could make for a tricky stretch across Centre County and the I-80 corridor as fall moisture gives way to the season’s first brush with winter.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, showers will move in Saturday afternoon as southerly winds pull in brief warmth. Highs near 60°F will quickly fade as colder air pushes in from the Great Lakes. By Monday morning, temperatures will hover near freezing with scattered snow showers possible, particularly over higher ridges and valleys north and west of town.

Motorists traveling U.S. 322, I-99, and I-80 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick spots during the rain-to-snow transition. Gusty winds may also limit visibility across open stretches of farmland and ridge tops. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation advises allowing extra travel time and ensuring wipers, lights, and tires are in top shape before the chill sets in.

Forecasters say Monday’s air mass marks the leading edge of an Arctic push expected to grip much of the eastern U.S. through Veterans Day. Daytime highs will struggle to top 40°F, and wind chills could dip into the 20s by early Tuesday.

While snowfall amounts remain light, this early “winter tease” signals a colder trend ahead. Residents planning Veterans Day events or early holiday travel should stay weather-aware — after all, November has only begun showing its wintry hand.
