State College, PA – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a High Wind Watch for central Pennsylvania from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, warning of gusts up to 60 mph that could cause power outages and travel difficulties.

The watch covers Clinton, Centre, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Lycoming, Union, Snyder, Montour, Northumberland, Columbia, Schuylkill, and Tioga Counties, including State College, Williamsport, Pottsville, and Selinsgrove.

According to the National Weather Service, west winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with occasional gusts reaching 60 mph, particularly Wednesday afternoon and evening as a strong cold front moves through the region. Some of the highest gusts could occur within thunderstorms that develop late Wednesday.

Forecasters warn that damaging winds may topple trees and power lines, potentially leading to widespread outages and hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles on open roadways such as I-80, I-81, and U.S. Route 322.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid parking under trees, and prepare for possible power disruptions through Thursday morning. Conditions are expected to improve gradually by midday Thursday as the front exits the state.
