State College, Pennsylvania – Sweltering heat and powerful thunderstorms are expected to collide in central Pennsylvania on Monday, July 28th, bringing a serious summer weather alert to the region. Temperatures are forecast to climb to 90°F with a heat index nearing 100°F, followed by the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours during the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, the combination of high heat and humidity will elevate the risk for heat-related illness through at least Wednesday afternoon, particularly for those without air conditioning or proper hydration. The agency warns that isolated storms Monday afternoon may produce gusty winds, intense rainfall, and localized flooding, especially in poor-drainage areas and along Route 322.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, with a possible second wave of storms after 5 p.m. Residents should limit outdoor activities, check on elderly neighbors, and avoid travel during storm windows. While Monday night will clear out, temperatures will remain in the upper 60s, offering only modest overnight relief.
