STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – After a mild and mostly sunny weekend, a new round of fall showers is set to dampen central Pennsylvania early Monday, signaling the start of a cooler stretch ahead. Motorists along I-99 and U.S. 322 should plan for slower commutes as rain develops during the morning and midday hours.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, light to moderate rain will return late Sunday and continue through early Monday afternoon. While rainfall totals should stay light—generally under a quarter inch—wet leaves could make rural roads and campus walkways slick. Winds will increase Monday, gusting up to 25 mph, adding a chill to the air for those heading to work or classes. Residents are encouraged to secure lightweight decorations and allow extra time for travel.

Sunday will feature the last truly warm day of this stretch, with highs near 74°F before cooler air filters in Monday. By Tuesday, highs drop back into the 60s with lingering clouds and a few scattered showers possible through midweek.

According to meteorologists, this pattern marks the beginning of a more seasonable trend for late October. Fall leaf viewing, football tailgates, and pumpkin patch visits should fare better by Wednesday afternoon as skies begin to clear. Cooler nights late week could set up the area’s first frost risk next weekend—just in time for final Halloween decorating and yard cleanup.
