Central Pennsylvania is under a wildfire risk warning through 5 p.m. Sunday, as dry conditions and low humidity increase the potential for fires to spread rapidly. Residents are urged to follow local burn bans and restrictions to prevent fires from igniting. These conditions, compounded by low relative humidity and recent dry spells, make central Pennsylvania particularly vulnerable to wildfires this weekend.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in State College, winds from the north at 6 mph will persist today, with a high near 53 degrees and sunny skies. Clouds will move in tonight, bringing a low around 33 degrees. Rain is forecasted to arrive Sunday afternoon, offering some relief with a 100% chance of precipitation in the afternoon and evening. Rainfall could bring between a quarter and half an inch of accumulation.
The wet weather is expected to continue Sunday night, with a low of 45 degrees and precipitation expected into Monday morning. Veterans Day on Monday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high of 58 degrees, offering a brief respite from rain and a chance for outdoor activities.
Looking further ahead, the five-day forecast predicts mostly sunny conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid-50s, cooling to the mid-20s overnight. A chance of showers could return by Thursday, with a high near 54.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant with open flames and to stay informed of local weather advisories as conditions may change.
