BEND, Ore. – Much of eastern and central Oregon will wake to a hard freeze Monday morning, as subfreezing temperatures grip the region under clear skies. The National Weather Service in Pendleton has extended a Freeze Warning from midnight to 10 a.m. Monday for multiple valleys and basins, including the John Day Basin, Grande Ronde Valley, Wallowa County, and Central Oregon.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s and low 30s, with the coldest readings near 25°F in Bend, Redmond, and Madras. According to the NWS, the chill will likely end the growing season across many high-desert communities and could damage unprotected plumbing.

Residents are urged to cover or move plants indoors, drain irrigation systems, and protect outdoor pipes. Pet owners should ensure animals have warm shelter overnight, particularly in low-lying rural areas where cold air tends to settle.

Conditions will warm quickly after sunrise Monday, but another frosty morning is possible midweek as high pressure keeps skies clear and winds light.
