Warm Springs, Oregon – A surge of gusty winds and bone-dry air is elevating fire risk across the Warm Springs Reservation through Tuesday evening, with outdoor burning strongly discouraged and wildfire danger spiking across Central Oregon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, as west winds gusting up to 25 mph combine with humidity levels as low as 15 percent. These conditions can turn any spark into a fast-moving wildfire, especially in the grasslands and timber zones of the reservation.
Fire crews are on high alert across Jefferson County and the broader reservation, where the combination of breezy weather and dry fuels means even small flames could escape control. Local officials urge everyone to postpone any burning, avoid using equipment that can spark, and report smoke or flames immediately. Travel along Highway 26 and local roads could be impacted if a wildfire starts and spreads.
This Red Flag Warning will remain active until winds ease and humidity climbs, likely by late Tuesday night. Further fire weather alerts are possible as dry, breezy conditions continue across Central Oregon this week.
