Bend, OR – A 29-year-old snowboarder was rescued Sunday afternoon after suffering serious injuries in a fall on Mt. Bachelor, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Search and Rescue volunteers were dispatched around 12:28 p.m. to the Cinder Cone area after the snowboarder reportedly fell and hit a rock, causing severe hip and rib pain. The man had recently moved to Central Oregon, officials said.

Fifteen Search and Rescue volunteers worked to reach the injured man and safely bring him down to a snowcat-accessible road. Mt. Bachelor staff then used a snowcat to transport him to the West Village parking area.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., Bend Fire & Rescue took the snowboarder to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for further evaluation and treatment.

Officials thanked all teams involved, including Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol and SAR volunteers, for their “teamwork and quick response” during the mountain recovery effort.
