Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Heavy rain could trigger dangerous flooding across central and southern Oklahoma starting after midnight Friday and continuing through Sunday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for more than 40 Oklahoma counties—including Oklahoma City, Norman, Enid, and Lawton—as well as northern Texas counties near Wichita Falls.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, multiple rounds of intense rainfall are forecast, especially Saturday and Saturday night. Widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, but isolated locations may see up to 4 inches by Sunday evening. Areas along rivers, creeks, and low-lying roads are especially at risk for rapid flooding.

Residents in flood-prone communities such as Chickasha, Ardmore, Durant, and Ponca City should stay alert for rising water and avoid driving across flooded roads. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation warns drivers that sudden road closures are possible on highways and rural routes. Power outages and delays on major interstates—including I-35, I-44, and I-40—are also possible if flooding intensifies.

If you live in a floodplain, have an evacuation plan ready, charge mobile devices, and move vehicles to higher ground before storms arrive. Emergency managers recommend having sandbags and supplies on hand. This is the region’s first widespread summer flood watch since 2021, adding extra urgency for preparedness.

Flood Watch remains in effect until Sunday evening. Monitor official alerts for possible upgrades to Flood Warnings and additional hazards as rainfall continues.
