Oklahoma – Headlights glow through low-hanging fog this morning as cold air locks in across central Oklahoma. In Oklahoma City, temperatures hover in the teens, and moisture near the ground freezes quickly, creating a quiet but dangerous setup for drivers.

According to the National Weather Service office in Norman, patchy freezing fog developed before sunrise and may linger into the morning commute. Visibilities can drop suddenly, and untreated roads, bridges, and ramps may glaze with ice. Areas near I-40, I-35, and I-44 are especially vulnerable as temperatures remain well below freezing.

Skies gradually clear later today, allowing sunshine to push highs into the upper 30s. That improvement is temporary. Another round of freezing fog is possible late tonight into early Thursday as temperatures fall back into the 20s and low clouds redevelop. Drivers should expect changing conditions around dawn and plan extra time.

This local hazard reflects a broader winter pattern gripping much of the country. Cold air spilling south from Canada continues to fuel lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes and snow across the Northern and Central Plains. That same Arctic air mass keeps central Oklahoma locked in winter while storms target other regions.

Thursday stays cold, with highs in the mid-30s and brisk north winds adding bite. Friday remains mostly sunny but colder, with highs near freezing and lows dropping into the single digits by early Saturday. Any moisture on roads can refreeze quickly after sunset, raising the risk of slick travel.

By the weekend, sunshine dominates but temperatures stay suppressed, with Saturday highs near the lower 20s before gradual improvement Sunday. Longer-range outlooks suggest drier weather next week, though winter mornings remain sharp.
