Oklahoma City, OK – Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected to hit central and southern Oklahoma starting tonight, extending into Tuesday. Residents along the I-35 corridor should prepare for potential flooding and isolated tornadoes as storm systems move through.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, storms will intensify late Monday evening and could bring rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches in parts of the region. The heaviest rains are projected for areas near Oklahoma City and along I-35, creating the potential for flash flooding. Wind gusts of up to 80 mph and hail the size of quarters are also possible.

Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding and reduce speeds on wet roadways. If travel is unavoidable, check local road conditions and heed any closures. Emergency officials recommend staying indoors during storms and having a severe weather preparedness plan.

For Tuesday, storms will continue across southern Oklahoma, particularly around Ardmore and Wichita Falls, before tapering off by mid-afternoon.
