Columbus, OH – A strong cold front moving across central and southern Ohio will bring a quick transition from rain to snow Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by gusty winds up to 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Precipitation will begin as rain overnight Tuesday, then shift to snow by Wednesday afternoon as colder air pushes in behind the front. The NWS warns of rapidly falling temperatures, which could cause wet roads to freeze, creating slick travel conditions through Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
The strongest winds are expected Wednesday morning through afternoon, with gusts of 40–45 mph possible across the Columbus, Dayton, and Wilmington areas. Blowing snow could briefly reduce visibility during heavier bursts.
Motorists should use caution during the Wednesday evening commute and allow extra travel time, especially on elevated and untreated surfaces.
