Ohio – Brisk winds are sweeping across the state this morning, carrying the first real bite of late fall air. Travelers on I-70, I-71, and other major routes can expect gusts pushing 45 mph through the afternoon—enough to rattle signs, sway high-profile vehicles, and make highway travel challenging as Thanksgiving week traffic builds.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m., covering much of central, southwest, and west-central Ohio. West winds from 20 to 30 mph are expected, with stronger gusts near 45 mph. Light rain or drizzle may develop early, leaving damp pavement and reduced visibility in open areas. Drivers should secure outdoor decorations and plan for slower travel times, especially if towing or driving taller vehicles.

Temperatures hold in the mid-40s today before dipping sharply into the 20s overnight as cooler, drier air settles in. Thanksgiving Day turns crisp but calmer, with highs in the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead, Friday brings clear skies but colder air—morning lows near 21 °F could bring patchy frost across rural counties. The weekend stays seasonable until late Saturday when a system to the west begins pulling moisture eastward. Models hint at a possible rain-to-snow changeover by early Sunday, signaling an early “winter tease” before December’s stronger Arctic front arrives next week.

By December 1–5, forecasters expect a broad cold surge across the northern and central U.S., increasing the chance of heavy snow for post-Thanksgiving travelers heading home.
