Columbus, Ohio – Thunderstorms could move into central Ohio by mid-afternoon Tuesday, threatening to snarl traffic and disrupt outdoor plans as the workday winds down. Storm chances rise sharply after 2 p.m., with the heaviest activity possible during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the storms could bring locally heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Rainfall amounts will generally stay under a tenth of an inch but could be higher in the strongest cells. The storm threat extends across Franklin County and surrounding areas, including Dublin, Westerville, and Grove City.

Travelers should allow extra time for slowdowns on I-70, I-71, and I-270. Outdoor events and practices scheduled for late afternoon should have backup plans in place. While the severe risk remains low, any storm could cause brief visibility issues for drivers and force delays at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

The unsettled weather will continue into Wednesday, with another round of showers and storms possible before a drier stretch returns Thursday. Residents should monitor updates as timing and intensity may shift.
