Wilmington, OH – A developing winter system will bring snow, a wintry mix, and potentially slick travel conditions across Ohio and east-central Indiana today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington.

Snow is expected to begin early this afternoon for areas northwest of I-71, expanding to the rest of the region by evening. Forecasters say the highest confidence in several inches of snow is in west-central Ohio—including communities near Dayton, Urbana, and Bellefontaine—and into east-central Indiana, where snow will persist the longest.

As temperatures rise tonight, snow will gradually transition to a mix of rain and snow, or even plain rain for locations near or south of the I-70 corridor. This changeover may limit accumulation totals closer to Cincinnati, Springfield, Columbus, and Richmond. NWS notes that light snow or mixed precipitation could linger into the overnight hours.

Travel impacts are expected this evening into tonight, especially across areas that stay mostly snow. Reduced visibility, slushy roads, and slick overpasses may develop during the evening commute and continue into early Sunday morning. Drivers should check the latest forecast and road conditions before heading out.

Some locations may also see a brief period of snow Sunday morning before the system fully exits the region.

Forecasters encourage residents across central and western Ohio, as well as neighboring Indiana counties, to remain alert as precipitation types and road conditions could change quickly.
