Columbus, OH – Central Ohio residents are waking up to snow this Friday, with accumulations of up to 2 inches expected by 4 p.m. Drivers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during the morning and afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow began early this morning and will persist through the afternoon, tapering off by evening. Accumulations will vary across the region, with higher totals likely in northern suburbs and rural areas. Temperatures will hover just above freezing during the day but are expected to drop below 30°F tonight, increasing the risk of icy roads overnight.
Main roads, including I-71 and U.S. Route 33, could see slower travel times, especially during peak hours. Local officials recommend allowing extra time for travel and maintaining safe distances between vehicles. Pedestrians are also advised to use caution on sidewalks, which could become slippery as snow compacts.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-30s, providing a brief respite before colder air returns Sunday through midweek. Highs will drop into the 20s, with nighttime lows in the teens. While no additional precipitation is forecast after today, wind chills could make outdoor activities uncomfortable.
Stay updated on road conditions by checking ODOT’s traffic cameras and winter weather advisories. If traveling, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, including snow tires and an emergency kit.
