Binghamton, NY – Residents across central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania will see unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend, with highs climbing well above late September averages.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, highs on Saturday are expected to reach the upper 70s to around 80 degrees across much of the region, including Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton. Southern areas such as Wilkes-Barre and Elmira may climb into the low 80s.

Forecasters say skies will remain mostly cloudy Saturday as a low-pressure system moves east of the region. While a few scattered showers could develop across the Catskills and northeastern Pennsylvania in the evening, most communities will stay dry.

The warm pattern continues into Sunday, with many locations topping out between 80 and 84 degrees. Elmira and Wilkes-Barre are projected to reach 83 to 84 degrees, while Binghamton and Syracuse may reach the low 80s. The National Weather Service notes that these readings are well above average for the end of September, when normal highs are typically in the upper 60s.

Above-normal warmth is expected to last into the early part of next week, with dry conditions dominating.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the late-season warmth, but also prepare for shifting conditions as fall weather patterns return in October.
