Central NY Weather Alert: Scattered Rain Showers Continue Today

Binghamton, NY – Much-needed rainfall is spreading across Central New York and surrounding areas today, with scattered showers expected to persist into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a batch of steady rain moved through the region early this morning, followed by scattered showers that will continue throughout the day. Forecasters note that a few rumbles of thunder remain possible this afternoon.

Rainfall totals are expected to reach between a quarter and a half inch across much of the region, with locally higher amounts possible. Maps from the weather service show projected rainfall of 0.25 inches in Montrose, 0.41 inches in Towanda, 0.52 inches in Boonville, and up to 0.56 inches near Elmira.

Daytime high temperatures will range from the upper 60s to the low 80s, with the warmest readings in northeastern Pennsylvania and the Catskills. Wilkes-Barre and Milford could reach 80 degrees, while areas further north, such as Utica and Boonville, are forecast in the low 70s.

The National Weather Service advises that rain will linger into the early overnight hours, particularly across the Southern Tier of New York, northeast Pennsylvania, and the Catskills.

Residents planning outdoor activities should be prepared for wet conditions, with brief periods of heavier rainfall possible.
