Green Bay, WI – The National Weather Service in Green Bay reports a slight uptick in the potential for isolated strong storms across central and northern Wisconsin this evening, primarily between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Forecasters say temperatures well above normal and gusty south-southwest winds have increased humidity levels, creating enough instability for a few brief but stronger thunderstorms to develop. While the overall risk for severe weather remains low, any storms that form could produce gusts up to 40 mph, small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
The greatest chance for storm activity includes areas from Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids north toward Rhinelander and Antigo. Storms are expected to be short-lived and scattered, but outdoor events may be briefly impacted.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if spending time outdoors this evening. Conditions will calm later tonight as cooler air moves in behind the boundary.
