Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central and northern North Carolina, in effect from 7 a.m. Monday to noon Tuesday.

The advisory covers the Triad, Triangle, and northern Coastal Plain, including Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Chapel Hill, Wilson, and Rocky Mount.

Forecasters expect light snow accumulations of up to 2 inches near the North Carolina–Virginia border, with lighter amounts — around a half inch — across the Triad and Triangle regions.

While snowfall totals will remain modest, the main concern is hazardous travel, especially Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, as temperatures plunge into the upper teens. Residual moisture could lead to the formation of black ice on roads, sidewalks, and bridges.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speed, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Even small amounts of snow followed by freezing conditions can create slick surfaces and dangerous travel conditions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and check 511 for road information before traveling.
