Albuquerque, NM – A Pacific storm system is bringing widespread rain and mountain snow to much of northern and central New Mexico on Sunday, with additional winter weather expected before and after the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, rainfall totals of 0.1 to 0.3 inches are expected across the region, with higher amounts in some eastern areas. Snowfall between 3 and 8 inches is possible above 8,500 feet, with totals near 10 inches at the highest peaks. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the northern mountains through midnight, with travel across high passes potentially becoming difficult.

Forecasters say Thanksgiving Day will bring a temporary warm-up, with high temperatures 2 to 10 degrees above normal under mostly fair skies and light to moderate breezes.

However, long-term forecast models show the potential for a more significant winter storm late next weekend, between Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1. The system could create hazardous post-holiday travel conditions across central and northern New Mexico.
