Caribou, Maine – Snow will begin impacting roads before sunrise Thursday, with the heaviest burst hitting during the early morning commute across northern and central Maine.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow develops overnight and intensifies by 2 a.m. Thursday, with the most widespread accumulation falling before 8 a.m. Areas including Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent, and Clayton Lake could see 2 to 5 inches, with locally higher totals near the Canadian border.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly along Route 1 and I-95 north of Bangor, where visibility and traction could drop during peak travel hours. In Bangor, Millinocket, and Greenville, totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected before temperatures rise above freezing later in the day.

That daytime warm-up will transition precipitation to a mix of rain and light snow, especially across eastern Maine. However, a second round of snow arrives Thursday night, bringing another coating to 2 inches across central and Downeast مناطق, including Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, into the Friday morning commute.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, keep headlights on in low visibility, and watch for refreezing overnight. Snow ends by mid-morning Friday, but colder air will settle in through the weekend, keeping roads slick in spots and setting up additional weather chances early next week.
