Indianapolis, IN – Strong thunderstorms are pushing into Indiana from the west this evening, threatening cities from Evansville to Fort Wayne with heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and winds over 40 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered storms will move across central and northern Indiana through midnight, with the heaviest rainfall and strongest gusts expected along the I-70 and I-69 corridors. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, and a few storms could produce small hail, especially near Bloomington and Lafayette.

Motorists in Indianapolis, Muncie, and South Bend should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions and reduced visibility, particularly on stretches of I-65 and I-69.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and charge mobile devices. “This is a good time to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings,” said emergency management officials.

Storm activity is expected to taper off after midnight, but spotty showers may linger into Saturday morning. More updates and possible advisories will be issued as storms continue to track east.
