Little Rock, AR – Central and northern Arkansas residents should prepare for several rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms lasting through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock.

The NWS said in a Sunday morning update that while a brief break in the rain is expected early Sunday, widespread showers and storms will return Monday and continue through midweek. Forecasters predict rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches across much of northern and central Arkansas, with locally higher amounts possible. Southern Arkansas is expected to see lower rainfall totals.

According to meteorologists, the primary impacts will include heavy downpours, cloud-to-ground lightning, and the possibility of stronger storms developing. The saturated ground could increase the risk of flash flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas.

Rainfall maps shared by the NWS show the heaviest accumulations centered around Fayetteville, Harrison, Mountain Home, and Jonesboro, with totals tapering off further south toward El Dorado and Texarkana.

The agency urged residents to monitor forecasts closely, avoid flooded roadways, and prepare for possible travel disruptions through midweek.
