Fargo, N.D. – Much of North Dakota and western Minnesota will face a sharp chill overnight, with temperatures dipping to near freezing and widespread frost expected by early Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks and Bismarck, frost advisories are in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. CDT in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota, and until 9 a.m. CDT in central and western North Dakota. Temperatures could fall as low as 32 degrees, with calm winds and clear skies creating prime conditions for frost formation.

Communities from Fargo, Grand Forks, and Moorhead east into Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, and Roseau, as well as Bismarck, Minot, Dickinson, and Jamestown in North Dakota, are all under advisory. Sensitive vegetation, including late-season gardens and potted plants, may be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

The National Weather Service recommends residents take protective steps tonight by covering plants, bringing potted flowers and herbs indoors, and disconnecting garden hoses to prevent damage from the chill. Farmers across central and northern counties should also monitor crop impacts, especially in low-lying areas.

Frost advisories remain in effect through Sunday morning, with conditions improving by mid-morning as temperatures climb back into the 60s. Additional advisories could be issued again next week as cool overnight lows continue.
