Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh is warning that slippery and icy conditions will persist overnight into Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025, as temperatures plunge into the teens and 20s across much of central and eastern North Carolina.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday for counties across the northern Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain, including Wake, Durham, Guilford, Alamance, Forsyth, Franklin, Johnston, and Wilson.
Forecasters say up to one inch of additional snow is possible before midnight, with lingering moisture and snow cover expected to refreeze overnight, leading to black ice on roads, bridges, and sidewalks. Even areas that received only light snow earlier Monday could see hazardous driving conditions through the morning commute.
Temperatures will drop sharply after sunset Monday, reaching the upper teens to lower 20s by sunrise Tuesday, ensuring that untreated surfaces will remain slick and icy well into the morning hours.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and avoid sudden braking on icy roads. Road updates are available through DriveNC.gov or by dialing 511 before heading out.
