Raleigh, N.C. – Dense fog is covering much of central North Carolina this morning, making roads hazardous for early commuters. Visibility has dropped below a half mile in several areas, and drivers are urged to use extra caution until conditions improve.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday for counties stretching from Person and Granville down through Wake, Johnston, Cumberland, and Sampson. Forecasters warn that the thickest fog will linger in low-lying areas, along rivers, and near open fields where moisture has pooled overnight.

Hazardous conditions are expected on major highways including I-40, I-85, and U.S. 64. School zones may also see dangerous conditions as buses begin routes, and state officials stress the importance of using low-beam headlights, reducing speed, and allowing extra stopping distance.

By late morning, improving visibility is expected as the sun lifts the fog, though lingering pockets may persist in rural areas. Motorists should remain alert until the advisory expires.
