Raleigh, North Carolina – Warm, dry conditions will quickly give way to wet roads and reduced visibility this evening, with showers arriving by around 6 to 7 p.m. and continuing overnight across central North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, today will be the warmest day of the current stretch, with highs reaching the mid-80s to near 90 degrees before clouds thicken this afternoon. Showers will develop from west to east starting late afternoon, with widespread rain and a few thunderstorms expected between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday.

Cities including Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, and Fayetteville will see rain chances climb sharply this evening, with probabilities reaching 60% to 80% during peak hours. Major routes such as I-40, I-85, and US-1 could become slick, especially during heavier rain bursts overnight. While severe weather is not the primary concern, isolated storms may produce brief gusty winds and lightning.

Residents should plan for slower travel this evening, use headlights in low visibility, and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Charging devices ahead of the overnight rain is also recommended in case of isolated outages.

Rain will taper off early Sunday morning, with improving conditions expected later in the day. Additional updates will be issued if storm coverage increases.
