Raleigh, North Carolina – Temperatures rising quickly into the upper 80s by Sunday afternoon are setting the stage for a warm, summer-like weekend across central North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs will climb from the upper 70s and low 80s Saturday into the mid to upper 80s Sunday, with some areas nearing 89°F. Cities including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Fayetteville will all experience well above-normal warmth through the weekend.

While most of Saturday and Sunday remain dry, a few isolated storms could develop in southwestern parts of the state Saturday afternoon. The better chance for rain arrives Monday as a cold front moves through, bringing scattered showers and a 10 to 25 percent chance of precipitation.

Drivers along I-40, I-85, and US-1 should expect minimal travel impacts through the weekend, but wet roads could develop during the Monday morning commute. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated during peak heat and remain alert for changing conditions early next week.
