Raleigh, NC – Central North Carolina is under severe weather conditions as Storm Debby brings widespread flooding and tornado concerns. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh issued an alert early Thursday morning, warning residents of heavy rainfall and potential tornadoes in the region.
According to the NWS, multiple bands of heavy rain will continue to spiral inland, producing rainfall rates of 1.5 to 2.0 inches per hour. This intense precipitation increases the risk of flash flooding across the region, particularly in low-lying and urban areas. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, primarily affecting the central and northern coastal plains, including areas like Raleigh and Rocky Mount.
Today’s forecast predicts a high likelihood of rain, with temperatures peaking at 79°F. The rain is expected to persist into Friday, with an 85% chance of continued showers and slightly cooler temperatures, reaching a high of 84°F. The weekend will see a brief respite on Saturday with partly cloudy skies and a high of 90°F, but the rain returns on Sunday with a 40% chance of showers and cooler temperatures around 87°F.
Looking ahead to next week, scattered showers are forecast from Monday through Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to low 80s. Residents are advised to stay informed of weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of severe weather.
