Raleigh, North Carolina – 33°F overnight lows are threatening sensitive plants through early Sunday morning, as clear skies and calm winds allow frost and freeze conditions to develop across central North Carolina. Temperatures will drop quickly after sunset, creating a risk to vegetation and outdoor agriculture by sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs will remain in the 50s across the region Saturday before temperatures fall into the upper 20s to mid-30s overnight. While widespread freeze warnings are not yet in effect due to seasonal criteria, conditions are favorable for frost and localized freezing temperatures.
The coldest readings are expected in outlying and rural areas including Roxboro, Henderson, and Sanford, where temperatures could dip closer to 28–32°F. Urban centers such as Raleigh, Durham, and Greensboro will likely stay slightly warmer, generally in the low to mid-30s, but still cold enough for patchy frost on exposed surfaces.
Residents should protect sensitive plants by covering or bringing them indoors before midnight. Gardeners and farmers should monitor low-lying areas where colder air settles, increasing the risk of frost damage.
Temperatures will rebound after sunrise Sunday, but additional chilly nights are possible before a more sustained warmup arrives early next week.
