Binghamton, N.Y. – Sunshine will dominate Binghamton Friday and Saturday, but residents should brace for a wet turnaround by late Saturday night as showers and thunderstorms spread into the Southern Tier.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, storm chances increase late Saturday, with the highest risk Sunday into Sunday night. Rainfall could be heavy at times, and localized flooding is possible in poor drainage areas. Thunderstorms may also bring gusty winds, making travel hazardous.

On Sunday, conditions look stormiest after 8 a.m., with widespread showers and a thunderstorm threat continuing into the evening. The NWS notes an 80 percent chance of rain through Sunday night, when downpours and thunder remain possible before tapering into Monday morning.

Travelers on Interstate 81, Route 17, and secondary county roads should watch for water pooling and reduced visibility during Sunday’s heaviest rainfall. Residents are urged to keep devices charged in case of power outages and to limit non-essential travel during peak storm hours.

The unsettled stretch eases Monday with lingering showers before sunshine returns Tuesday into midweek. Additional advisories could be issued if rainfall amounts trend higher.
