Binghamton, New York – Drivers across central New York could encounter scattered rain and snow showers Thursday afternoon as a surge of colder air pushes temperatures back into the lower 30s to lower 40s, ending the brief stretch of springlike warmth.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, light precipitation will move across the region at times Thursday, with snow mixing with rain, especially during the afternoon hours. Temperatures will remain cold enough for flakes to fall across higher elevations around Cortland, Ithaca, Oneonta, and the Catskills, though significant accumulation is not expected.

Cities including Syracuse, Auburn, Utica, Binghamton, and Elmira may see brief snow showers or rain-snow mixes as the colder air settles in behind a departing system. Most roadways should remain mainly wet, but visibility could briefly drop during heavier bursts.

The unsettled pattern continues into Friday, when rain and snow showers become more likely, particularly across central New York, with afternoon highs mainly in the 40s.

Conditions improve Saturday as clouds decrease and sunshine returns, allowing highs to reach the mid-30s to mid-40s across the region.

Another system approaches Sunday with additional scattered rain and snow showers before a significant warmup arrives Monday. Temperatures could surge into the mid-50s to lower 60s, bringing steady rain and a temporary return to springlike conditions before colder air returns again later next week.
