Binghamton, NY – A stretch of mild, dry weather across central and southern New York is set to shift as a weak cold front brings chances for light rain and snow showers Thursday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures across the region climbed into the low to mid-50s Thursday afternoon, roughly 5 to 8 degrees above seasonal norms. High pressure brought clear skies and dry conditions throughout the day, with winds shifting westward, drawing warmer air into cities like Binghamton, Elmira, and Syracuse.
By tonight, a cold front is forecast to move south from northern New York, increasing precipitation chances across the region. Rain showers are expected in lower elevations, with the potential for light snow in higher areas, particularly east of I-81 and north of I-88. Towns such as Hamilton, Cooperstown, and Norwich could see the highest precipitation chances, reaching up to 38%.
Residents should prepare for changing road conditions in hilly areas and allow extra time for travel after 6 p.m. Visibility could be briefly reduced during heavier showers. While impacts remain minor, keeping updated with local alerts is advised as colder air lingers into Friday morning.
