Syracuse, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of Central New York through 6 p.m. Tuesday, as lake-effect snow continues to move across the region, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
The advisory covers Madison, Northern Oneida, Southern Oneida, and Onondaga counties, including cities such as Syracuse, Utica, Oneida, Rome, and Hamilton. Additional snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are expected before conditions begin to improve later this evening.
Forecasters warn that the quick-hitting snow bands could cause slippery road conditions and reduced visibility, especially along higher elevations and open stretches of road. Motorists should plan for slower travel times and use extra caution during the evening commute.
The National Weather Service noted that lake-effect snow can vary sharply over short distances—some areas may see bursts of snow while others just a few miles away remain dry. Temperatures will hover near freezing, increasing the likelihood of icy patches on untreated roads.
Drivers can check updated road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
