Utica, NY – Residents across Central New York should prepare for damaging winds tonight as the National Weather Service in Binghamton issues a High Wind Warning for Southern Oneida, Otsego, and Delaware counties.

According to the NWS, west winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday. The strongest winds are forecast between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., coinciding with the passage of a cold front.

Officials warn that the storm could knock down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages and dangerous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles on open roadways and highways.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid windows, and remain on lower levels during the storm. Drivers should use extreme caution, especially on elevated or exposed routes.

Power crews are on standby, and emergency officials urge residents to report outages and stay alert for debris on roads Thursday morning.
