Binghamton, NY – Lake effect snow is forecast to intensify across central New York beginning Monday evening and continuing through Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Binghamton. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for Oneida, Onondaga, and Madison Counties, where 3 to 6 inches of snow are expected, with localized amounts up to 7 inches near the Oswego-Onondaga county line.
Forecasters say snow will increase in coverage and intensity overnight, producing reduced visibility and slick roadways, especially in areas north and west of Syracuse. The heaviest snow bands are likely to persist into Tuesday afternoon before gradually tapering off by Tuesday evening.
Travel may become hazardous at times, particularly along I-81 and nearby secondary roads impacted by narrow but intense snow bands. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
The NWS expects calmer conditions to return midweek as winds shift and the lake effect snow diminishes.
