Binghamton, New York – Wet snow will begin falling across northern Oneida County by noon Wednesday, turning roads slick and slowing the evening commute before tapering early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon to 4 a.m. EST Thursday for northern Oneida County, including Boonville. Total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches are expected.
Snow will likely fall steadily through the afternoon and evening, coating Route 12 and secondary roads across higher terrain. The wet nature of the snow may cause it to cling to trees and power lines, though widespread outages are not currently expected. Untreated roads, bridges and overpasses could become slippery as temperatures hover near freezing.
Drivers traveling during the late afternoon and evening should reduce speed, increase following distance and allow extra time to reach their destination. Snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility may create pockets of hazardous travel, especially after sunset.
Snow is expected to wind down before 4 a.m. Thursday, but isolated slick spots may linger into the early morning hours. Motorists can call 511 for updated New York road conditions before heading out.
