Binghamton, New York – Slick roads are already developing across central New York tonight, and drivers in Oneida County could face snow-covered pavement through the early morning hours Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday for Delaware, Otsego, Southern Oneida and Sullivan counties, with up to 1 inch of additional snow expected. In Northern Oneida County, including Boonville, the advisory continues until 7 a.m. Saturday, where up to 2 inches of additional accumulation is possible.
Communities such as Utica, Rome, Oneonta, Delhi and Monticello will see light snow tapering toward 1 a.m., but untreated roads, bridges and overpasses may remain slick. Farther north, colder temperatures in Boonville and surrounding areas will allow snow to persist longer, extending travel impacts into the early morning commute.
The New York State Department of Transportation urges motorists to reduce speed and increase following distance, especially on Routes 12 and 28 and along I-90 near Utica. If travel is necessary, check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
Snow diminishes from south to north overnight, but icy patches may linger past sunrise Saturday. Crews will continue monitoring conditions, and additional advisories could be issued if snowfall redevelops.
