Binghamton, NY – Lake-effect snow showers will continue across parts of Central New York overnight, with additional snowfall expected through early Monday morning, according to forecasters.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, 1 to 4 inches of additional snow is possible through 7 a.m. Monday, particularly in areas impacted by persistent lake-effect bands. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Onondaga, Seneca, and Cayuga counties.

Snowfall totals will vary significantly over short distances, a common feature of lake-effect events. Forecasters expect the highest additional amounts near and north of Syracuse, including communities such as Liverpool, Baldwinsville, and Brewerton, with lighter totals farther south and east.

Light snow may linger into Monday morning, potentially impacting the early commute. Even areas receiving lower snowfall amounts could see slick roads and reduced visibility, especially on untreated surfaces and during heavier snow bursts.

Travel may be affected on major routes including Interstate 81, I-90 (New York State Thruway), Route 20, and Route 31, where brief whiteout conditions are possible under stronger snow bands.

Temperatures will remain cold enough overnight for snow to accumulate efficiently, and any snow-covered roads may remain icy into the morning hours.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts, as lake-effect snow bands can shift with little notice.
