Boonville, N.Y. – Central New York’s first taste of autumn will arrive overnight as a Frost Advisory goes into effect for Northern Oneida County. Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-30s, cold enough to damage unprotected gardens and tender plants.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the advisory is active from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday. Areas around Boonville and rural parts of northern Oneida County are most likely to see patchy frost by sunrise.
Residents are urged to cover sensitive crops, flowers, and vegetables before bedtime. Potted plants should be brought indoors, especially in valleys and sheltered spots where cold air settles most easily.
Drivers heading out early may encounter frosted windshields, requiring extra time before the morning commute. While sunshine will lift afternoon temperatures back into the 60s, more nights near freezing are possible later this week, and additional advisories may follow.
