Binghamton, N.Y. – Gardeners and early commuters across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania may wake up to patchy frost Monday morning as temperatures dip into the 30s in the coldest valleys. The sudden chill comes after a clear, calm evening that is allowing heat to escape quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, most locations will bottom out in the low to mid-40s, but rural valleys in Broome, Delaware, Chenango, and Susquehanna counties could slip into the mid to upper 30s. That drop is enough to trigger frost development on exposed surfaces, particularly in low-lying areas.

Cities including Syracuse, Ithaca, and Wilkes-Barre are expected to remain in the 40s, while colder spots such as Hamilton, Norwich, Montrose, and Delhi could see readings as low as 36 to 38 degrees. The frost risk is most concerning for late-season crops and outdoor plants left uncovered.

Residents are advised to protect sensitive vegetation and allow extra time if traveling early, as localized frost could reduce visibility in some valleys. Chilly mornings are expected to continue into midweek, though daytime highs will remain seasonable.
