Albany, NY – A fast-moving winter storm is set to bring light to moderate snowfall across much of Upstate New York starting tonight, creating hazardous road conditions for Tuesday morning commuters. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties, including Albany, Herkimer, and Syracuse, where snowfall totals could reach up to 6 inches in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin late tonight and intensify after midnight, with accumulation rates peaking early Tuesday morning. Roadways, including Interstate 87 and Route 90, are likely to become snow-covered and slippery, increasing the risk of travel delays during the morning rush hour. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, leave extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible.

By Tuesday afternoon, snowfall will taper off, leaving behind totals of 2-4 inches in Albany and up to 6 inches in higher elevations near Herkimer. High temperatures will reach the low 30s, but brisk winds could make it feel much colder.

Looking ahead, Christmas Day on Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with highs near 29°F, offering calmer weather for holiday plans. Temperatures will remain cold through the week, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and partly cloudy skies.
