New Mexico – Cold morning air settles into the Rio Grande Valley as sunlight spreads across Albuquerque. Frost clings to shaded spots, but the day warms quickly. That calm, bright start hides a sharper shift already lining up later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, temperatures climb into the mid to upper 50s today and Wednesday under partly sunny skies. Rain chances increase Wednesday night, followed by a rain-and-snow mix Thursday. Snow showers become more likely Thursday night as colder air filters in.

Across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and the East Mountains, travel stays smooth today and Wednesday. Winds remain light, and roads stay dry. Conditions change Thursday afternoon as showers develop. By evening, temperatures drop toward freezing, allowing rain to mix with snow. Even light accumulation could create slick spots on I-25, I-40, and major surface streets.

Higher elevations east of the metro, including Tijeras Pass, face a greater snow risk. Visibility may drop quickly during snow showers, especially after sunset. By Friday morning, colder air settles in, with lows dipping into the teens and 20s. That temperature drop raises concerns for black ice where daytime moisture lingers.

Friday brings a lingering chance for snow showers early, then clearing skies by afternoon. The weekend looks brighter and calmer, with sunshine returning and highs rebounding into the mid to upper 40s. Nights remain cold, keeping Winter firmly in place as 2026 gets underway.

Plan ahead now. Keep extra layers ready, allow more drive time Thursday evening, and watch bridges and shaded roads for ice. More Weather Alerts may follow as snow timing sharpens. How cold did it feel in your neighborhood this morning?
