Hastings, NE – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for central and south-central Nebraska until noon CST today, bringing snow, blowing snow, and icy conditions to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, snowfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected across the affected counties, with localized areas receiving up to 4 inches. Light ice accumulation is also possible. Strong north winds, gusting up to 35 mph, will cause blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.

The advisory covers multiple counties, including Buffalo, Hall, Hamilton, York, Adams, and Fillmore. A narrow band of moderate to heavy snow is expected to move through the area this morning, with brief periods of freezing rain preceding the snowfall. Snow accumulation is expected to taper off from west to east by midday, but strong winds will persist throughout the day.

Travelers should use caution and be prepared for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Authorities recommend slowing down and allowing extra travel time. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511.

Residents should also be cautious when walking on icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways. The National Weather Service urges people to take precautions to avoid slips and falls in icy conditions.
