Hastings, Nebraska – A sharp warm-up is set to take hold across central Nebraska, with temperatures climbing from the 50s Monday into the upper 70s by Tuesday and nearing record levels by Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, Monday will start cooler with highs between 54 and 61 degrees under mostly cloudy skies and a slight 15 percent chance of a light shower. Winds from the southeast could gust up to 25 mph, beginning a trend toward breezier afternoons.
By Tuesday, temperatures surge into the 71 to 79 degree range with partly cloudy skies and south winds increasing to 10 to 15 mph, gusting near 20 mph. That warming trend accelerates into Wednesday, when highs approach record territory across the region.
The combination of dry fuels, low humidity, and periodic gusty winds will elevate fire danger each afternoon, especially in rural and open areas. Communities including Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney could see conditions where fires ignite and spread quickly.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with any equipment that could spark. Fire weather concerns will remain elevated through midweek as warm, dry conditions persist.
