Hastings, Nebraska – Scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds will return to central Nebraska tonight, with impacts likely stretching through Friday evening, especially east of Highway 281.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, storm chances rise to 30% after sunset Thursday and will linger into the overnight hours. Winds from the north will intensify, gusting up to 30 mph, with evening lows falling into the 40s. Friday remains unsettled, with highs in the low to mid-60s and continued chances for scattered showers and storms. Gusts could still reach 25 mph, particularly in open areas and along major roadways.

Communities including Grand Island, Kearney, and York should prepare for potential wet roads, brief downpours, and reduced visibility during peak travel times. Drivers are advised to use caution, especially where winds and storms may combine to create hazardous conditions. Outdoor plans may need adjusting, and light objects should be secured ahead of the gusty conditions.

By Saturday morning, skies will clear but frost could develop in rural and low-lying areas under calm winds. Temperatures will rebound into the 70s by afternoon with sunshine returning.

More updates are expected as storm chances evolve Friday. Stay tuned for local advisories and weather alerts.
