Hastings, NE – The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a High Wind Warning for much of central and northern Nebraska through 6 p.m. Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph expected north of Highway 6.
According to forecasters, sustained northwest winds of 30–40 mph will develop by mid-morning, strengthening through the afternoon. The highest gusts are forecast for areas near Grand Island, Kearney, and Ord, where localized peaks above 55 mph are possible.
The strong winds could cause tree damage, isolated power outages, and hazardous travel, especially for high-profile vehicles on east–west roads such as Interstate 80. Loose outdoor objects should be secured, and caution is advised in open rural areas where visibility may be briefly reduced by blowing dust.
Motorists planning Thanksgiving travel should prepare for potential delays and monitor road conditions closely throughout the day.
